Home Visits
These are for patients who are housebound and too ill to come to the surgery. If at all possible, please make requests for these before 10.00 a.m. This allows the Health Care Professional to plan their rounds

Whooping cough cases increase

Cases of whooping cough (pertussis) reported to the Health Protection Agency (HPA) in England and Wales have more than doubled from 421 cases in 2010 to 1040 in 2011. There is a Practice Nurse available at both the Blackhall and Peterlee sites. Typical matters dealt with are dressings, removal of stitches, ear syringing, childhood immunisations, cervical smears and nurse lead chronic disease management clinics.

The Nurse also assists the Doctors with minor operations and family planning work.

Mrs Julie Warin is our “mobile” nurse and visits patients in their own homes if they are housebound to do chronic disease management etc..

Community Midwives

Work from Blackhall only providing full maternity and post-natal care

Community Nurses

They are attached to both sites and provide nursing care, advice and support. They work in close liaison with the Doctors and give support to patients too ill to attend surgery. They also liaise with Twilight Nurses, MacMillan Nurses etc. and give advice on appliances and aids.

The Community Matron works with the practice doctors to care for patients with multiple needs and those who are regularly admitted to hospital. This is by referral from the Doctor only.

Health Visitors

Work again from both sites, concentrating on families with children under 5 years and especially new babies. They run Baby Clinics jointly with the Doctors and also visit the elderly when necessary.

We are very fortunate to have a Physiotherapist based at our Blackhall Surgery – (0191) 586 8432. Referrals are via your Doctor only.

COUNSELLOR
A counselling service is provided at our Blackhall site – this is by appointment only via your Doctor.

CHIROPODY
We also have a Chiropodist based at our Blackhall Surgery. Referrals are via your doctor or nurse. All appointment enquiries are on 01429 285060.
